摘要：In this paper, we introduce a Cournot model to study college admissions competition in quotas among top two universities in China (Tsinghua and Peking University). Our simple model, by adapting Azevedo (2014), delivers a few theoretical predictions: (1) When the quota of a college increases, the cutoffs of both colleges will (weakly) decrease. (2) Colleges tends to allocate their admission quotas across majors so that major cutoffs are equalized. (3) Colleges will allocate more quotas to student groups in favor of them. We then provide empirical evidence to support all three theoretical hypotheses. Our paper is the first to combine IO theory and matching theory to study college admissions competition both theoretically and empirically.
主讲人简介：钟笑寒，清华大学经济管理学院副教授（长聘），经济系系主任。1994年获清华大学工学学士学位，1999年获清华大学经济学博士学位。2002年MIT斯隆管理学院访问学者。主要讲授课程：经济学原理、经济博弈论、政治制度与经济发展。获各级教学奖励多次。研究领域包括劳动经济学、政治经济学、应用微观经济学、应用微观理论。在《Games and Economic Behavior》、《Experimental Economics》、《中国社会科学》、《经济学季刊》、《经济学报》等期刊发表学术论文20余篇。出版著作《文物保护与旅游业发展：一个经济学的分析》、《中国农民故事》。主持国家自然科学基金项目《高考录取制度与匹配质量：基于择校机制理论的实证研究》。获《经济学季刊》年度最佳论文奖。清华大学中国与世界经济研究中心（CCWE）客座研究员、清华大学中国经济研究中心（NCER）研究员。
