题目：Mother's education and child development: Evidence from the Compulsory School Reform in China
Abstract: This paper investigates the causal impact of mother’s schooling on a wide range of childhood outcomes and the underlying mechanisms, by exploiting the China compulsory schooling law enacted in 1986. Using data from China Family Panel Studies, we examine various outcomes of adolescent development, including school enrollment, cognitive ability, non-cognitive ability, mental health, self-reported health, and anthropometric outcomes. We find that mother’s education not only has a significant effect on children’s school enrollment and math test scores, but also improves children’s non-cognitive outcomes such as internal locus of control, mental health, and nutritional status. We also find that mother’s education leads to substantial socioeconomic benefits for their children as well as an improvement in family stress and relations, which we interpret as two potential mechanisms behind our findings.
作者简介：刘宏2007年毕业于纽约州立大学石溪分校，获经济学博士学位。2007年至今在中央财经大学中国经济与管理研究院从事科研与教学工作，现任教授、博士生导师，主要研究领域包括健康经济学、劳动经济学和发展经济学。刘宏在Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of Population Economics, Health Economics等国际学术期刊和《经济研究》、《经济学季刊》、《世界经济》等国内经济类期刊发表中英文论文多篇。2012年入选教育部新世纪优秀人才支持计划。
