摘要：We develop a theoretical framework and a new empirical method to analyze the transmission of income inequality over the life cycle starting from initial socioeconomic differences to pension inequality in old age. We analyze the income inequality among old Chinese using a panel of over 4,000 old households from the China Health and Nutrition Survey during 1991-2015. We conduct both repeated cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses to isolate age effects from cohort effects and time effects. We find that the urban-rural gap, mediated by educational attainment, is the primary cause of the old-age income inequality, contributing 11-12 percent in recent years. The inequality is larger for the old than for the young, mainly because of the fragmented public pension system. We show how the mis-allocation of public recourses in education and in social security system in a developing economy has caused and increased old-age income inequality that is not driven by individual merits and calling for immediate reforms.
报告人简介：贾若，北京市人，北京大学经济学院 风险管理与保险学系 助理教授、研究员，金融学博士。他的研究领域包括保险与社会福利、信息不对称、偿付能力监管、公司经营效率等。他在Journal of Banking and Finance、Journal of Risk and Insurance、Geneva Risk and Insurance Review、《金融研究》等期刊上发表论文十余篇。他兼任中国银保监会偿付能力监管专家咨询委员会委员、亚太风险与保险学会（APRIA）常务理事，是现代风险学会（Modern Risk Society）创始人之一。他2016年毕业于瑞士 圣加仑大学 保险经济学研究所。
